You can send an individual SMS message to any phone field (outbound message phone fields must be valid) on both standard and custom objects (custom objects must have Allow Activities enabled).
You can send a message to an individual recipient from the Message Feed or use the Send SMS button.
Message Feed
The Message Feed allows from 1:1 chat-like conversations in real-time from within a Lead or Contact record. To send messages from here, you'll need to first configure the Message Feed.
Once the Message Feed has been set up:
- Navigate to the Lead or Contact record you want to send the message to.
- Locate the Message Feed and scroll down.

Configure the message:
- 'From' Sender account: The account to send from.
- Sender ID: The number to send from.
- Send to: The phone number to send the message to.
- SMS template icon (optional): Select a template to populate the message automatically.
- Merge fields icon (optional): Add merge fields to your message by first selecting the Field type (merge object), then the merge field.
- Attach file: Add images to your message.
- Message content: Adjust or compose your message from scratch.
- Character count: Character count and how many credits will be used for the message.
- Highlight special characters: This switch will highlight any Unicode characters so you can identify where they are if you want to remove them.
- Send: Send the message immediately or schedule to a time that suits.
- Schedule: Set your message to send at a later date/time.
- When you're ready, click on Send or Schedule to send the message.
Send SMS button
The Send SMS button opens the Send SMS window which is useful for scheduling your message or using other advanced features. To send messages from here, you'll need to first configure the Send SMS button.
- Navigate to the Lead or Contact record you want to send the message to.
- Click the down-arrow and then click on the Send SMS option.

Configure the message:
- Sender account: The account to send from.
- Sender ID: The number to send from.
- Send to: The phone number to send the message to.
- Select template (optional): Select a template to populate the message automatically.
- Merge field (optional): Add merge fields to your message by first selecting the Field type (merge object), then the merge field.
- Merge option (optional): Select the Field type for the merge field.
- Message content: Adjust or compose your message from scratch.
- Highlight special characters: This switch will highlight any Unicode characters so you can identify where they are if you want to remove them.
- Character count: Character count and how many credits will be used for the message.
- Attach file: Use this button to include an image file (MMS picture message).
- Send: Send the message immediately.
- Schedule: Set your message to send at a later date/time.
- When you're ready, click on Send or Schedule to send the message.
Sender ID
- The Sender ID will always default to the most recently used selection e.g. if you choose an alphanumeric sender ID to send a message, Sinch SMS for Salesforce will default to this selection the next time you message the recipient.
- If you'd like to use alphanumeric sender IDs, they need to be approved on your Sinch MessageMedia account first - otherwise the option won't work in Sinch SMS for Salesforce. We recommend checking if alphanumeric sender IDs are supported in your country.
- If you already have multiple Sender IDs for your account they will automatically be visible in the dropdown box. If you don't have additional Sender IDs but would like them, please set this up in your Sinch MessageMedia account or submit a request to our support team for assistance.
