The SMS Inbox works in real-time and automatically displays all inbound messages assigned to you as an individual user as they're received.
You can add the SMS Inbox to the Salesforce apps as a utility item and also install it on a console app, mobile app, homepage or the Salesforce classic sidebar.
SMS Inbox
The SMS Inbox provides the following information for each message:
- Related object type e.g. Contact or Lead
- Related record link - clicking the link will take the user directly to the associated record
- Date and time the message was received
- Message content
- Link to the related message task which contains more detail (eye symbol)
Filter the SMS Inbox
By default, any user can view another user's inbound messages by using the Select User filter at the top of the SMS Inbox.
To restrict a user to only their own inbound messages:
- Navigate to the Salesforce setup (⚙️) screen.
- From the left-side navigation bar, click on Users (under Administration).
- Find the user that you want to restrict and click on Edit.

Scroll down to the Additional Information section and check the Disable User Switch in SMS Inbox checkbox.
- Click the Save button.
- Repeat these steps for each individual user you want to restrict.
Note: The Disable User Switch in SMS Inbox field may need to be added to the page layout first.
