To link an SMS to an opportunity (or any custom entity), you'll first need to update your account settings. After setup, you can choose a custom entity in the 'Regarding' field. However, messages must still be sent to a contact, account, lead, or user.
Set the 'Regarding' field for SMS messages
To assign security roles to users:
- Navigate to the Power Platform admin center.
- From the left-side navigation, click on Manage.
- Click on Environments.

Click on the more actions icon (⋯) and click on Settings.

Under the Users + permissions section, click on Security roles.
- Locate and click on the SMS for Dynamics Service role.
- Scroll down to the Core Records section.
- You need to provide the Append To privilege for the record e.g. if you're using Opportunity as the record type, locate the Opportunity row and click the drop-down in the Append To column.

Depending on the record type you select, this should be at the level of Business Unit, Parent: Child Business Unit or Organization.
- Click on the Save + Close button in the top navigation bar to save the changes.
