Using contact fields, you can easily manage customer data and leverage it to create personalised campaigns. Not only does it give you enormous flexibility when it comes to collecting or importing data, it also lets you quickly and easily personalise each message in a campaign of any size.
What are contact fields?
A contact field is a metabox that allows you to input data from a category, like first or last name, into a message for added customisation. In simpler terms, Contact Fields allow you to deliver personalised messages to each person in your mass text campaign.
Your account includes twelve default contact fields, that fall into the following types:
- Date
- Number
- Phone
- Text
- URL
- Zip Code
- Timezone

Note: The timezone field is automatically populated for all newly created contacts based on the contact's country code, and where applicable, the area code.
You can update the timezone manually at any time if the auto-detected value is incorrect or if you'd like to override it.

You can create as many custom fields as you like using these types by following the steps outlined in the next section of this article.
Creating custom contact fields
-
Navigate to Contacts > Contact fields > Add custom field:
-
Next a form will open where you will add the Field name, Field type and Merge tag name - this will auto-populate with the Field name but you can change it if needed.
- Now you can start to use these custom fields in your campaigns! Simply upload a contact list from a file that has columns with headings that match the merge tag fields you want to use in your campaign.
