You can view SMS link click activity directly in a contact’s timeline - including which link was clicked and how many times. You can also set up a workflow to track and display this engagement, helping you gain better insight into contact behaviour.
SMS Link Click activity - Contact timeline
When a contact clicks on a link in an SMS that you've sent, their activity timeline will be updated with the link click information. To view this:
- From the left-side navigation bar, click on CRM and then Contacts.
- Click into the specific contact you want to send an SMS or MMS to.
- Click on the Activities tab.
- The contact view should default to the Activity section.
-
If the SMS or MMS activity doesn't show in the activity log, click on the Filter activity drop-down and check the box for Sinch SMS & MMS (under Integrations heading).
Trigger workflows using SMS Link Click
You can use the SMS Link Click value to trigger workflows e.g. if your sales team wants to follow-up with every customer who clicks on a link in an SMS campaign, you can create a workflow that adds contacts to a separate list whenever they click on a link in your messages.
To set this up:
- Make sure you've already created a static list that will be used in the workflow.
- From the workflow builder, open the Trigger workflow section.
- Click on Met filter criteria if it's a new workflow, or When filter criteria is met if it's an existing workflow.
- In the Eligible records segment, select Contact.
- In the Add criteria segment, scroll down to Integration filters and click Sinch SMS & MMS.
- In the search bar, search 'link' to filter for received message triggers.
-
From the list, select Sinch SMS & MMS: SMS Link Click properties as the criteria.
- From the Sinch SMS & MMS: SMS Link Click properties, select click URL.
- Enter the URL you want to track link clicks for.
- Use the is equal to any of parameter to track clicks to one specific URL
- Use the contains any of parameter to track clicks to a range of URLs
-
(Optional) If you also want to trigger this workflow based on a minimum number of clicks to a URL, click the + Add criteria button under the OR section. In the Add criteria segment, scroll down to Integration filters and click Sinch SMS & MMS. In the search bar, search 'link' to filter for received message triggers. From the list, select Sinch SMS & MMS: SMS Link Click properties as the criteria. From the Sinch SMS & MMS: SMS Link Click properties, select Number of Link Clicks. Set a parameter to decide when your workflow triggers e.g. you might only want to see if a contact clicks a link more than a certain number of times.
- Once the filters have been set, click Next to proceed to the Settings segment.
- Click Save and continue to confirm the trigger settings.
- To add the contacts that meet the criteria to a list, click on the + icon to add an action and set it as Add to static list (under Marketing).
- Select the static list (in step 1) that you created before building out this workflow.
- Click Save.
- When you're ready, click Review and Publish.
-
In the Re-enroll section, click on Edit and turn on the option to Allow contacts to re-enroll after completing the workflow. Make sure both options are checked.
- Turn on the workflow - when a contact clicks on a link in any of your messages (as per the workflow parameters set), they'll be added to the attic list. Their activity timeline will also be updated with the link click information.
