This guide will walk you through the process of registering an alphanumeric sender ID for your business to comply with Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) regulations. As of November 30, 2025, all businesses sending SMS messages in Australia must register their alphanumeric sender IDs through ACMA Assist.
Important: This registration is final and cannot be changed. Make sure you have all the correct information before you begin.
What you'll need before you start
Before starting the registration process, gather the following information:
Business information
Australian Business Number (ABN) - Must be current and active
Business address - Physical address registered with your ABN
Business website - Official website that matches one of your registered business names. If you don't have a website, you can provide a link to a public page that represents your business - such as a social media page.
Business telephone number - Include country code (e.g., +61 for Australia)
Alphanumeric sender ID
Sender ID name - The text-based sender ID you want to register (e.g., "SINCH")
Ensure you follow the formatting rules that have been determined by the ACMA.
Authorized representative information
You'll need to designate an authorized business representative who can approve the registration and have the following information available:
Full name
Email address
Mobile phone number
Registration Process
The registration process consists of four main steps:

Review & submit
Step 1: Access the registration portal
Log in to your Sinch MessageMedia account and navigate to Settings > Numbers > Alphanumeric sender IDs (alpha tags)
Click "Add new alphanumeric" or the add button
Step 2: Select country and account Type
In the popup window, select Australia from the country dropdown
Read the important notification about ACMA registration requirements

Important: This choice is final and cannot be changed so please choose carefully.
Your own business (also referred to as Direct Customer) flow: This means you're registering a sender ID for your own company linked to this account.
Another authorised business (entity associate) flow: Registering on behalf of another business.
