Contact syncing is the one-way automatic syncing of contact information from Mailchimp to the Sinch MessageMedia Hub. Once you've connected the Mailchimp integration, the Hub can then retrieve the names and phone numbers from your existing Mailchimp contact database and they'll be saved in your Hub contacts and identified with "MAILCHIMP", differentiating them from your other contacts.
The synchronisation automatically triggers every 24 hours so any changes or updates made to your contacts/contact lists in the Mailchimp portal, will be regularly updated and reflected in the Sinch MessageMedia Hub.
Configure Contact Sync during Installation
How to configure Contact Sync when you first install and set up the integration
1. In the menu, click on the icon, then select Integrations.
2. Find the Mailchimp tile and click on Install Now:
3. Then click on the Connect button:
4. To connect your Mailchimp and Hub accounts, you'll be prompted to authorise the connection by logging in with your Mailchimp credentials:
5. After you've successfully connected your accounts, you need to select your preferred consent option:
Important - the correct Opt-In Consent option will depend on regional regulations, and it is the customer's (i.e. your) responsibility to understand the opt-in requirements for their respective region. |
A) Confirmation notification - this option syncs your selected contacts across as subscribed by default and will send the following confirmation message to alert each contact and provide an opt-out option:
"You are subscribed to receive messages from Company Name. Reply STOP to cancel."
B) Double Opt In - this option only syncs a contact after they've provided explicit consent by replying YES to the following confirmation message:
"Reply Y or Yes to confirm that you want to receive SMS messages from Company Name."
Note - Each confirmation message sent will incur a cost of 1 credit per contact. |
C) None – if your regional legislation allows, you can automatically opt-in your contacts using Inferred (or Implied) Consent. This option syncs your selected contacts across without sending a confirmation message.
6. Click Next.
7. Now select the tags that you want to sync:
A) Choose your Audience from the dropdown.
B) Select the checkbox next to which contact lists you'll be using for SMS campaigns - only the tags you select will be synced, see below note.
C) Then click Next.
Note - To keep the syncing process as efficient as possible, the Sinch MessageMedia Hub allows you to isolate which groups you'll be using for SMS campaigns. This is particularly beneficial in mitigating the need to consistently sync a high volume of data if you have a large contact database in Mailchimp. |
8. Use the dropdown menus to map the correct Mailchimp fields and click Sync Contacts to finish:
You'll get a notification alerting you when the connection is up and running, just click on Done and you're good to go as soon as the contact sync is complete:

Manually Trigger Contact Sync
How to manually trigger Contact Sync
Because automatic contact sync only occurs every 24 hours, on occasion you may need to manually trigger contact sync with Mailchimp. This might be because you want to send an SMS campaign using contact information that was updated in Mailchimp after the most recent sync with the Sinch MessageMedia Hub.
In the spirit of keeping things super simple, there are two different locations where you can see your sync status and trigger a manual sync;
1. In the Campaign builder:
2. In Contacts & groups:
Whenever you trigger a manual sync, you'll get an alert:
You can only trigger one manual sync at a time, so once you click on Okay, continue with Manual Syncing, it'll become unavailable until the manual sync has finished.
