The Bulk SMS Manager enables you to send a Bulk SMS to a selection of records from a particular Object, selected from a ‘List View’ you have created on that Object Tab.
The Bulk SMS Manager can be used in both Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience. It is accessible from the Navigation Menu as illustrated below.
Lightning Experience Salesforce Classic
The Bulk SMS Manager allows you to send an outbound message to records within any Object that contains a Phone field in 3 simple steps:
- Choose your Data Source
- Select your Recipients
- Compose your Message
Data Source
The Data Source tab on the Bulk SMS Manager requires you to select the Object, Phone Field, and List View:
You’re also able to optionally select up to three additional fields to be displayed in the Select Recipients tab:
Click the Next button to move to the next step.
Select Recipients
The Select Recipients tab on the Bulk SMS Manager will display all of the records matching the filter criteria in your selected List View. Check the boxes next to the recipients you'd like to send your bulk message to:
Note - Records may match the criteria of your List View even if they have opted out of receiving SMS messages. However, you will not be able to select them from the Select Recipients list.
Click the Next button to move to the next step.
Compose your Message
The Compose Message tab on the Bulk SMS Manager is where you'll configure the message details. You can manually type your message into the Message Content field:
If you'd like to include Merge Fields in your message, just select from the Merge Field dropdown box and select the field you want to add to your message.
Alternatively, you can select an SMS Template for your message by clicking on Select Template in the blue ribbon and choosing from the list:
You can also add a value in the Tag field, which will tag each outbound message ‘Task’ record with the Tag value:
Any inbound responses will also contain the same Tag value. This will enable you to run a report of Task records containing a specific Tag value, allowing you to easily identify who was sent the specific outbound message, and who has responded.
You can use the Senders Account field to select the Sender ID you'd like to use:
Note - the Sender ID will always default to the most recently used selection when sending individual messages to a recipient. For example, If you choose "Alpha Tag" to send your bulk message, Mercury will default to this selection the next time you send an individual message to a recipient from the list of records selected for your bulk message. Remember, you'll need an approved Alpha Tag registered for your MessageMedia account in order for this option to work.
Once you've configured your message, you can execute a command as follows:
1. Preview your message - this will populate merge fields to show how your message reads
2. Attach files - e.g. images
3. Send now
4. Schedule for later
- Send Later - use this function if you'd like to schedule your bulk message to automatically send at a later time:
Important Note - once you schedule the bulk message, the recipient list will be "locked". What this means is that even though it will appear that you can select and de-select records from the recipient list, the message will only be sent to the recipient records selected at the time of clicking on the schedule button. If you would like to edit the recipient list for your bulk message, we recommend cancelling the message and creating a new one with your desired recipients.
The Bulk SMS Manager component can also be added to additional Lightning Pages, for example, if you frequently use the Bulk SMS feature, you could add it to the Home Page:
