This guide explains the error messages you may encounter during bulk sender ID registration, what they mean, and how to fix them.

When you upload your CSV file, our system validates each row. If issues are found, you can download an error report showing exactly what needs to be corrected.

Understanding the Error Report

Your error report includes these columns:

Review Outcomes

Outcome	Meaning	Action Required

SKIPPED	Missing required fields	Fill in all required fields and re-upload
REQUIRES CORRECTION	Format errors or business match failed	Fix the flagged fields and re-upload
BLOCKED	Cannot be submitted (duplicate or already registered)	See blocking reason — may need investigation

File Issues

These errors appear when uploading your file.

Missing Required Fields

These errors appear when a required field is empty.

How to fix: Fill in all required fields and re-upload your file.

Sender ID Errors

These errors relate to the format of the sender ID itself.

Error Message	Cause	How to Fix
Sender ID must be 2–11 ASCII characters (codes 32-126)	Too short, too long, or contains invalid characters	Use only standard letters, numbers, and basic symbols. Must be 2–11 characters.
Sender ID cannot consist only of numbers	Sender ID is all digits (e.g., "12345")	Include at least one letter
Sender ID cannot start or end with a space or underscore	Starts or ends with space or underscore	Remove leading/trailing spaces or underscores
Sender ID cannot contain the word 'unverified'	Contains "unverified"	Choose a different sender ID
Sender ID cannot be solely a restricted word	Sender ID is a single restricted word (e.g., "Bank")	Combine with your business name or choose a different sender ID
Sender ID cannot consist solely of restricted words	Sender ID is only restricted words (e.g., "Bank-Support")	Include your business name alongside any restricted words

Note: Restricted words include terms like "Bank", "Gov", "Police", "Tax", and other official-sounding words. These cannot be used alone but may be combined with your business name.

ABN Errors

ABN must be exactly 11 digits	ABN is not 11 digits, or contains spaces/dashes	Enter exactly 11 digits with no spaces or dashes

Business Legal Name Errors

Business Address Errors

Suburb

Business Website Errors

Authorized Contact Errors

These fields are critical — ACMA uses this information to communicate with your customer.

Business Phone Errors (Optional Field)

Blocked Errors

These errors prevent submission entirely and cannot be fixed by editing the data.

Must exactly match the Sender ID on this row in your downloaded working file. Do not replace it with a different Sender ID (even another one for the same account).	You changed the sender ID in the template	Download a fresh working file — do not modify the sender ID column
Sender ID is already registered and cannot be re-submitted	This sender ID has already been submitted or approved	No action needed — it's already in progress or complete
Sender ID appears more than once in the uploaded file	Same sender ID listed on multiple rows	Remove duplicate rows — each sender ID should appear only once

Business Match Errors

After format checks pass, we verify the sender ID matches the business details.

Sender ID does not sufficiently match the registered business name	Sender ID doesn't align with the business name, domain, or trademark	Ensure the sender ID relates to the customer's registered business name, trading name, domain, or trademark
We could not finish the check for this sender ID. Try again.	Temporary system issue	Re-upload your file to retry validation

Tip: The sender ID should be recognizable as belonging to the business - for example, an abbreviation of the business name, the trading name, or a match to their website domain.

Tips for Successful Uploads

Don't modify the Sender ID column — Download the working file and only fill in the empty columns
Remove extra spaces — Many errors are caused by accidental spaces at the start or end of values
Use the correct formats:
- ABN: 11 digits, no spaces (e.g., 53004085616)
- Postcode: 4 digits (e.g., 3000)
- Website: Full URL with https:// (e.g., https://www.example.com.au)
- Phone: Digits with optional formatting (e.g., +61 412 345 678)
Check authorized contact details carefully — ACMA will contact this person to approve the registration
